In today’s fast-paced and complex world, business education has the utmost importance to deal with changes in life as well as various industries. Business education helps develop real-world skills and assists students in achieving prosperity. Institutes around the world have started providing the best learning experiences to build a generation of expert business personalities. The King Talal School of Business Technology (KTSBT) is one such institute that provides excellent business education to build a generation of highly qualified business technology students who are capable of learning new skills, competing, and achieving the job market criteria.

Strong and Innovative Inception

KTSBT is housed under Princess Sumaya University for Technology (PSUT). Founded in 1991, it is a pioneering educational institute that combines excellence with innovation and provides students with a high-quality education in multiple specializations. This enables them to contribute to the development of their communities as well as keeps them abreast of constant global advances in numerous fields. The university is owned by the Royal Scientific Society (RSS), Jordan’s leading applied research institution. Additionally, it fosters leadership and seeks the opportunity to contribute uniquely to the community.

Accredited Institution

KTSBT was founded in 2006 in response to a decree issued by HRH Princess Sumaya bint El Hassan, Chairman of the Board of Trustees. The purpose behind this foundation was to provide non-traditional, specialized programs focusing on the requirements of modern technology in all sectors. The school is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), and it provides education with real-world examples and experience. It is led by faculty members who foster innovative practices in business education and has small class sizes as well as engaged learning. Recently, the E-Marketing & Social Media Bachelor and Masters programs at KTSBT have been accredited by the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM). As part of our accreditation, our students will gain exemptions from professional CIM qualifications. They’ll now only need to pass one module to complete the CIM Certificate in Professional Marketing or Professional Digital Marketing or two modules to complete the CIM Diploma in Professional Marketing or Professional Digital Marketing.

KTSBT offers the following academic programs:

  • Financial Technology and Accounting Analytics: The Financial Technology and Accounting Analytics program resulted from extensive consultations and studies prepared by the School, and its logistical and academic ability to offer a specialization that would prepare graduates capable of engaging in the local and global markets and making an impact. The program enables students to achieve the capabilities and skills needed to deal professionally with digital data and the tools to extract them in preparing and analyzing financial plans and reports.
  • Supply Chain Management and Logistics Technology: The program is launched in partnership with KEDGE Business School, Antwerp University, AUB, and USJ and co-funded by Erasmus Plus Capacity Building in Higher Education. It covers topics in the supply chain such as food system sustainability, management of supply operations in humanitarian organizations, and marine logistics services. It bridges the gap between the labor market and academic institutions.

Career Opportunities in Business Technology

For various career opportunities, the career guidance and alumni office at PSUT in cooperation with the KTSBT organizes an annual career fair. Companies are invited to offer their services and interview graduating students. In the career fair of 2022, more than 35 companies participated and the office managed 55 part-time jobs for students. Additionally, over 30 market experts participated in the teaching of selected agreed-upon courses and the syllabus is agreed upon, and adhered to the course description, educational goals, and course learning outcomes.

Moreover, the school cooperates with the Queen Rania Center for Entrepreneurship (QRCE), which is part of PSUT and plays the role of a national center of excellence for entrepreneurship, innovation, and incubation hubs. Furthermore, the school collaborates with iPARK which supports entrepreneurs through matchmaking, advisory, legal support, and capacity building through multiple incubators across Jordan. iPARK also provides services to institutions and donors seeking to establish impactful entrepreneurship support and enablement programs.

Extra-curricular Activities

To ensure maximum student engagement, the school has four student clubs, the Accounting students club, the Business Administration club, the Business Analytics club, and the Sustainable development club. Students manage these clubs and faculty members mentor them in this journey. They engage students in several extracurricular activities related to their field of study and national and international competitions and challenges. Moreover, KTSBT has organized the Accountancy day event which includes a meeting between more than 200 accounting students and 55 professionals from various fields. Recently, two student clubs have been proposed by the student and approved by the Deanship of student affairs, the Photosician students club, and the Women Entrepreneur students club.

Internationalization

KTSBT has established various collaboration agreements with universities worldwide:

  1. Heinrich Heine University, Dusseldorf, through postgraduate study opportunities leading to a Master’s degree in European Studies.
  2. Hasselt University, Belgium, through the joint Master’s program in Management Information Systems and International Marketing Strategies.

The school also offers joint degree programs with the University of Michigan-Dearborn, Oakland University, and the University of Arizona. The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), did not only reformulated School’s mission, goals, and strategic plan but also improved learning outcomes. Moreover, it formulated policies and measurement systems in various sectors. Recently, KTSBT received an invitation to join the Global Business School Network (GBSN). It became the first business school in Jordan to join this network. The school encourages internationalization through providing exchange opportunities to students and faculty.

Diversity and Inclusion

To ensure diversity and inclusion at the campus, the school begins with understanding students’ needs, their concerns, and being visible to them. For that, it arranges student councils, clubs, and unions that allow the students to participate in decision-making and representation. Moreover, all students are provided with a code of conduct that clearly states the appropriate behavior expected of students on campus.

Additionally, international students are supported by the deanship of student affairs. It provides a variety of services including health insurance, tutoring, and financial aid. Moreover, it arranges different events such as the international students’ day event where students can present their cultures. Moreover, PSUT is a host of many ERASMUS Plus programs and mobility programs that give a one-of-a-kind experience of Jordanian culture to students.

The number of international students at KTSBT has increased from 141 in 2021 to 156, from 19 different nationalities, in 2022. To value the increasing percentage of international students, KTSBT participated in two job fairs to recruit more international students. Moreover, the public relations office is working to collaborate with foreign embassies in Jordan and invite ambassadors to the PSUT campus and graduation ceremonies to increase awareness of its specialized programs.

Upskilling with Technology

PSUT established the e-Learning Centre on its campus in 2016, and it has been operating as the hub for distance learning, online courses, and open educational resources. The center is one of the vital operating units in the university and enables opportunities for research and innovation in the eLearning field, and provides professional training. Moreover, field training helps students acquire new skills using the latest technologies and tools available in the market.

Moreover, the school provides various professional training in cooperation with the Career guidance and alumni office and the university consultation and training center. It has organized more than 105 training workshops that included training on recruitment and work skills, entrepreneurial and self-employment skills, communication and interpersonal skills, computer applications, introduction to professional certifications, community, and volunteer programs.

Specialized Future Programs

KTSBT always tries to establish unique, specialized academic programs according to the need of local and regional requirements. The school intensively carries out a SWOT analysis to offer a doctoral program in Business Administration. These programs will be taught along with executive programs such as Executive MBA at the graduate level and Global Business and Business and Technology Sustainability at the bachelor level.

Sustainable Growth and Development

At KTSBT, we understood that the ‘key’ to achieving sustainable growth and development—is championing the Agenda 2030 17 SDGs—at a local, regional, and global level. In 2021, KTSBT became the first business school, in Jordan, to [draft and write] an Agenda 2030/SDGs report (i.e. sustainable development (SD) report), which accounts for the university’s impact across the socio-economic and environmental dimensions of sustainable development (SD) in Jordan. The Agenda 2030/SDGs encourages and supports undergraduate and taught postgraduate students—in tackling national and global issues, such as food security and water scarcity. By doing so, we became agents of change, driving responsible and accountable behavior, which contributes toward real, sustainable, and transformational—change for present and future generations.
