With its transition to Phase 4, Marvel’s attempt to stay on top of the game is not going undermined. And its latest movie is just the cherry on top of the cake. Marvel Studios just dropped the official trailer of Dr. Strange and fans are going gaga over the probable plot theories and possible plot twists.
Multiverse of Madness
Marvel’s Cinematic Universe transitioned to Marvel Cinematic Multiverse with its cinematic pieces of Loki, What If….?, Spider-Man: No Way Home. In its previous movies, Marvel has revealed the consequences of messing with the multiverse, and Dr. Strange’s upcoming movie will be the sole focus of the same. The promising trailer teases something brand new for the MCU—the (possible crossover event fans have been long awaiting).
Wait, there’s more. The trailer not only reveals an evil Wanda Maximoff who is living in isolation after messing with the minds of a whole town, but it also hints toward a familiar sound that belongs to Charles Xavier from the X-Men movies, Monica Rambeau, the daughter of the late Maria Rambeau from Captain Marvel, is also along for the ride, her powers looking more developed in a fight with Scarlet Witch.
Decoding the Plethora of Madness
The dimensional-hopping story follows the reality-warping events of Loki and Spider-Man: NWH, the latter of which saw Dr. Strange messing with the fabric of the universe to help Peter Parker.
“We should tell him the truth,” is another hymn of provocation for MCU geeks. Marvel (knowingly or unknowingly) provided a sharp and crisp glimpse into the maddening multiverse hopping. In case you missed out on a few elements other than the Professor X crossover fiasco, here’s a little breakdown of the possible characters/plot-twist elements:
Does Marvel’s newly-introduced rules of branching timelines and variants give a sneak-peak into the existence of the multiversal Illuminati? This would not only allow Patrick Steward to return as the Professor X of the Fox X-Men movies, but a variant of Tony Stark (who is surely dead in the ‘sacred timeline’) would also mean Robert Downey Jr. to show his face again in the MCU.
The Flaming figure can either be Captain Marvel in her fully pumped-up form, blazing with power. Or, it could be Tony Stark! Moreover, we have America Chavez, Captain Carter (look towards the lower right end of the poster and you can spot her shield), Rintrah, Ultron, Shuma Gorath. The trailer opens with Dr. Strange waking up and saying “…and then the nightmare begins.” What if ‘Nightmare’ is the new villain we are getting who is apparently also the ‘mystery voice’?
